Matthäus Günther's meticulously executed design was for fresco in the central dome of the Benedictine abbey church at Rott am Inn. The heavens open up above the congregation to reveal the Holy Trinity at the centre, the Virgin, the Archangel Michael and the Benedictine saints. The representation even over-flows the drum of the dome, seeming to invade the church interior.
