This writing cabinet is not only a superb example of the art of Augsburg cabinet-makers, who specialised in this type of furniture from the latter half of the 16th century, it also revels the strong influence exerted by engravings reproducing fantastic imaginary architecture or Islamic motifs such as moresques on furniture-making. The Castel Sant' Angelo in Rome and a second, presumably ancient, round building are represented on the sides.
