This bed is richly painted with nuptial motifs. The foot shows the visit of the Virgin Mary to her similarly pregnant cousin Elizabeth (Luke 1, 41-45). The bed was, therefore, probably part of a dowry. Beneath the pedestal of the miraculous image on the headboard there is a signature: gemahlen [painted] 1778 Johann Nepomuc Pichler Maler [painter] in Schliersee. Bichler came from Thiersee in the Tyrol, and worked as a painter in Schliersee for a while before entering Tegernsee Monastery as a lay brother in 1797.
