Ernst Gamperl
Oct
German guided tour.
The internationally renowned artist Ernst Gamperl has revolutionized the traditional craft of woodturning. For the first time in Germany, his "Tree of Life" project is being presented. The starting point of this ten-year endeavor, begun in 2008, was a 230-year-old oak tree that had been uprooted by a storm. Gamperl transformed the 32-ton giant into a unique ensemble of 97 delicately shaped vessels, each with a sculptural presence.
In addition to the "Tree of Life" objects, the exhibition also features recent works by the artist, shown in dialogue with masterpieces of Baroque wood and ivory turning, as well as other significant artworks from the museum's collection.
