He is described as "the most capable statesman ever to steer the fate of the country": Maximilian Joseph Count von Montgelas. Between 1799 and 1817, he modernised Bavaria fundamentally. His radical reforms, inspired by Napoleon, changed administration, taxes, laws, education, medicine and the postal service. Bavaria became a decisive factor in the German Empire. The guided tour shows objects from Montgelas' estate.
