Search for heirs to silver objects confiscated in 1939

Our Provenance Officer Dr Matthias Weniger travelled to the USA and Israel in April and June 2023 for the restitution of a total of 26 silver objects to over 20 families of aggrieved persons. The trip was actively supported by the German missions abroad in Washington, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Tel Aviv as well as the office of the Free State of Bavaria in Israel. Several stops were also accompanied intensively by the USA correspondent of Deutschlandradio, Doris Simon, and by the ARD correspondent in Israel, Bettina Meier.

The Bavarian National Museum is also working closely with the Munich City Museum on the silver removal.
The project is funded by the German Centre for the Loss of Cultural Property and the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts.
