In 1983, the oldest of the branch museums of the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum was inaugurated in the majestic fortress of the Bishops of Bamberg in Kronach. In 2013/14, the museum underwent extensive renovations and the innovative lighting system now perfectly highlights the old masterpieces. Further major additions in 2020 helped expand the museum’s Lucas Cranach collection, thereby further enhancing the importance of this branch museum.
