History of the Branch Museum

In 1993, the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum acquired more than 2200 works of art from the holdings of the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis. Since 1998, the majority of these works were put on display in a newly established branch museum. It is located in the Marstall, the former stables of St Emmeram's Palace in Regensburg, a neo-classical building which was built according to the plans of Munich architect Jean Baptiste Métivier between 1829 and 1832.
