Historical Views of Bavaria

The exhibition invites visitors on a fascinating journey through four centuries of graphic representations of cities and landscapes, drawn from the significant graphic collection of the Bavarian National Museum, which has only recently been conserved and made accessible to the public.

Ranging from meticulous observation to artistic interpretation, the exquisite watercolours, prints and drawings offer vivid impressions of historic places such as Munich, Augsburg, Nuremberg and Straubing, as well as numerous castles and palaces. At the same time, they reveal the aesthetic ideals and social interests of the periods in which they were created.

By bringing different modes of representation into dialogue, the exhibition opens up new perspectives on the complex relationship between reality, memory and artistic expression.
