Baroque and Rococo

Barocco and Rococo

The Bavarian and Palatine Wittelsbach rulers were among the great patrons of the arts in the Baroque era. The Bayerisches Nationalmuseum presents unique objects from the leading European centres of art. Magnificent furniture, goldsmith's work, weapons, musical instruments, clocks, glasses, miniatures, ivory and bronze sculptures offers a comprehensive picture of courtly splendour.
An extensive collection of oil sketches illuminates the process of creating ceiling frescoes and altars in churches and monasteries.
The Bavarian Rococo is superbly represented by the renowned sculptures of Johann Baptist Straub and Ignaz Günther, the products of the Nymphenburg Porcelain Factory and the goldsmiths´ works from Augsburg and Munich.
