In 1747, supported by Prince Elector Max III Joseph, attempts began to make porcelain in the hunting lodge at Neudeck in der Au. It was not, however, until the Chief Master of the Mint and General Director of Mines Count Haimhausen became director of the factory that the first porcelain could be produced in 1754. The 'Churfürstliche Porcelain-Fabrique' was moved to near the palace at Nymphenburg in 1761. Count Haimhausen was awarded a medal by the Prince Elector for his services, as shown in this ideal portrait bust of which only one exemplar has been preserved.
