With its Greco-Roman shape, fine painting and lavishly engraved gilding, this Prunkvase – which has a companion-piece showing Queen Therese – is a masterpiece of the Empire style, a vogue to which the Nymphenburg Porcelain Factory remained committed until well into the 1840s. Deemed highly characteristic, this pair of vases was selected for display at the first 'Industrial Exhibition' held in Munich in 1834, where they met with critical acclaim.
