Said to have come from Ottobeuren, this angel is attributed to the sculptor Joseph Christian, who lived in Riedlingen on the Danube and was the creator of important sculpture in the monastery churches at Ottobeuren and Zwiefalten. The angel retains its gilding. Contrastingly matt and shiny, the body and robes are also rendered with subtle differentiation of tone. Even the finest glazes of colour applied for emphasis to the lips and the irises have been preserved.
