Straub made nine larger than life-size wood statues for the stairwell of the former Palais Törring in Munich around 1772. Several beautiful terracotta models for them have been preserved, among them this statuette of Mars, god of war. The handling is almost theatrical or even comically exaggerated. The composition was changed in execution.
